I recently moved back to Hull from Scotland, whilst I got myself sorted I was staying at my sister's flat. I moved into my own flat last week. One of the first things I did once I got my keys was ring karoo to connect the phone line. I was told someone would contact me within 48 hours. A week later I still heard nothing so I gave them a call today. Apparently I can't get a phone line because my sister hasn't paid her phone bill. This is absurd, how can I be held responsible for my sisters phone line? Sure I stayed at her flat for a few months, but the phone is in her name, I never onced used the phone, and I certainly never agreed to be responsible for her phone line.

When I was told this news I requested to speak to a manager, I was told I would get a call back. I don't think I'll hold my breath.

How on earth did they know that she is your sister?

We're really sorry we have let you down and that you experienced this. We'd like to look at this for you. Services would only be declined in the first instance when there is unpaid bills at a previous address the applicant lived in, however, we can assure you we take further measures to investgiate this based on the individual applying when 'debt' arises. If you could send your contact details to consumerservices@karoo.co.uk (post a reply on here when you have too please) and we'll pass this onto our a Senior Advisor to look at for you. Once again we can only apologise for the experience you received and hope we can work together to get this sorted for you.
Kindest regards
KC

So Kcom are reading these posts now! (see above).. Let me guess it will make no difference to the poor service :-).. Why when i use 0.01GB over my limit do you charge me for the full GB and not carry the 0.99 over to the next month!!

Sorry know it is off the topic but it really annoys me, espically as i want to upgrade to the top package but they insist i would be tied into a new 12 month min term

I received a call back from kcom a little earlier. They seemed to agree that because my sister didn't move with me that they should look at my application again. So some good news.

I think its good Karoo have got someone posting here, think it shows they are interacting more with their customers, as in the twitter and facebook pages as well. They've been reading these forums for ages as there is someone who posts called kcfriendlyengineer who's posted on here for a while. As for the 12 month contract, that's just standard with most things, I changed my sky tariff and had to agree to a new 12 months.

Yeah I agree it is a good thing, dont know how much attention they pay to the bad feeling about their service, after all we dont have any other providers so they dont really have to be compatative. I have changed my sky package in the past but never had to re-commit to a 12 months min term, same as mobiles once outside the min term you can change your tariff up or down but this does not re-commit you.

This is illegal

http://www.otelo.org.uk/pages/1home.php

Threaten to report them to Otelo

KCOM cannot stop you taking over the line in your name. If this was the REAL WORLD in BT LAND you could request a change of line owner from another Communications Provider such as TalK Talk and KCOM would have to transfer the Line to Talk Talk even though there was an outstanding debt on the line incurred by the current end user.

Suggest you speak with Cobus Communications - They are Hulls ONLY Wholesaler of telephone lines from KCOM (I did the consultancy work to enable them to wholesale from KCOM) and get the line switched to Cobus. The same rules applies as in the the REAL WORLD where Openreach  supply WLR3 line rental services to all commuinications providers - BT buy lines from Openreach of which allows all Communications Providers to compete with BT retail by purchasing the same services from Openreach at the same price - WLR3 is regulated by Ofcom. Unfortunately, Ofcom DO NOT FORCE !!!! KCOM to provide equivalent services even though they have a monopoly - WHY !!!!

I will be opening a website next year which details the problems in Hull, why they exist and why nothing is being done about it.

Hope that helps

Dont you just love KC !!!!!!!!!

KC are being out of order, legally you would have to have a financial connection to that person, like a joint bank account, for them to penalise you for their debt.
