I noticed this new network detection tool http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/ linked to from The Reg. It is designed to establish how your ISP interferes with traffic going across its network.

A quick try shows that Karoo are furtling with DNS requests (hijacking mistyped address for displaying adverts) but we knew that already. The tool also indicates that Karoo may be proxying SMTP, POP3 and IMAP connections (so ensure you use SMTP/SSL, POP/SSL and IMAP/SSL to secure your email traffic from potential snooping).

Less suprisingly RPC and SMB servers are blocked (but then as the tool says, these protocols are only supposed to be implimented across a LAN anyway).

You will need Java JRE for this to work.
