@karoobroadband Do you shape iPlayer? I'm unable to stream HD content at 22:00 on Karoo Pro. iPlayer HD requires 3.5Mb but is stuttering, while running a test at speedtest.net (results below) shows that I shouldn't have any problems.

What gives?

I'm sure I read somewhere that they didn't and that it was in the same class as HTTP traffic.

Hi, no we don't shape iPlayer or iPlayer HD, yes they require more bandwidth but as you say you shouldn't be having an issue. Could we recommend a call to our Tech Support team on 606101, they may be able to provide some additional information or help.

Many thanks

iPlayer HD has never, ever worked for me.  I sync on Max 2 at 4.5mbps, so its enough if im doing little else, but it's always buffered.

Perhaps there is an alternative question here, do they prioritise speed tests  Tongue

I can put a call in to tech support, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing they can do. I also tried the connectivity test on the iPlayer site and found that although the http download test was OK the streaming test was slower.

I too have never been able to play iPlayer HD, I sync at 15000 (give or take) and get an easy 6Mbs via the HD test.  So should stream easily...

Karoo, can you not cache the BBC content locally?  I believe they will allow ISPs to do this?

There seems to be a general lack of response particularly when it comes to bandwidth and traffic shaping questions. If you get through to the wrong person on the helpdesk they will end up lowering your sync rate etc... which clearly isn't the answer. I'm sure these poor speeds and quality of service issues cannot be fixed by the helpdesk.

Hmmmmm.

Scrap the shaping, throw in more bandwidth and leave it down to natural contention Smiley

Net neutrality!

Hear Hear

Two options I think
lower prices to reflect the service that is actually obtained ,
or invest the money taken under the false pretense of  what pro is in more bandwidth to make pro what it should be.

What a joke eh?  I didn't read your original post properly and assumed you was on an old Max package, so in reality, if I do move to Karoo Mid 2, I still wont be able to watch youtube!  So while i'm on Max Option 2, the official Customer Service speel is that its because im prioritised, I have to upgrade before they lie to me again!

i'm on the old karoo max, and am contemplating moving to one of the new packages, probably mid2 (assuming i dont have to contract to another 12 months).  However, i want to watch skyplayer on an evening via my xbox. on max, currently, i have constant buffering issues, and it is not watchable.  will changing my package alleviate most of this on karoo?  seeing one of the posts above it suggests that even the pro package buffers between 6pm and midnight, on video streaming.

Hi All,

Just want to assure you that iPlayer is given the same priority as HTTP and other non-P2P / NNTP traffic.
So I'm very concerned about the poor experience reported here with iPlayer HD streams, especially when speed tests are reporting much higher throughput than you need for the HD stream (and no, we do not give speed tests an artificially high priority!). I'm even more concerned about stuttering YouTube playback which simply should not happen.

Feel free to post detailed feedback here and I will try and collate your responses and cross reference to overall traffic levels. Please can I have your package type, date / time, speed test results, etc. If you prefer you can PM me.  So I can get detailed network stats, it would also be useful if I could have your karoo nodename (if you do want to share this info with me then a PM would obviously be safer!)

Cheers
