Ok looking at another post a while ago i see im not the only one who has never seen this phantom 16-24mb connection

i'm getting pretty sick of being fobbed off with the usual karoo excuses usually consisting of at least one of the following:

1) its because your too far away (the classic)
2) your modem is too far away from the socket (if 1 also applies to you, you're screwed!)
3) you're not using the modem karoo sent you
4) you are using the modem that karoo sent you, and a "free" modem is not a professional grade one!
5) your sky box is creating noise on the line (possibly true in older 4-5 yr old sky boxes)
6) in order to improve connection quality your connection speed has been reduced

i could go on, i've heard them all.....

If people are willing to go with it, then im prepared to put up a page with a map of hull so that we can start mapping the bad and phantom good areas of hull and surrounding, submissions will not require names but will require indicating your location on a map.

if people can let me know what you think , i'l get to work

Nearest exchange to Hawthorne would be West I think. I still think there's more people on MAX, that's possibly why there is more variation in the speeds.

seems everyone from hawthorn ave up to albert ave get 8meg  thats y i said think exchange is there

plus i why in 1 area you can get 7.5 meg on adsl and on adsl 2 you get 10meg
but in another area you can get 7.5 meg on adsl but 12-14meg on adsl2

I guess it would depend on the cable, quality and which way the cable is routed. I'm quite sure nearest one would be West.

There isn't really an accurate way of telling what speed you will get, just depends on line length and cable quality. All KC can do is show the averages just to give people an idea.

For me the postcode checker says 14mbit, but I was connected at 18Mbit for over a year and then recently I now connected at 17Mbit.

Going by that the average around my house is between 2mb-3mb more than i'm currently getting.

I guess the two extra kc fitted sockets are really slowing down the speed.

This is taking the p*ss
I sync at 15Mb min...  I live within 1/2km of the exchange.
I can get bursts of 20-30Mb sometimes, I never use more than 30Gb a month, I very rarely d/l anything overnight so max would use 35-40Gb a month.
I am on the top package with a 100Gb allowance.
I have a netgear modem using the broadcom chip, it has a totally rock solid sync, never ever falters..

Yet for the last week my speeds have been reduced to less than 1meg.

WHY?!?

Last night - 11:30pm - D/L speed - 23Kbs!!!! WTF Karoo!??!?
At this moment in time I can not even contemplate iPlayer, I can not stream anything from youtube, its taking too long to upload anything via SCP to my websites.
And I am paying £30+ a month for this?

Grrrrrrrrrr.....
