I'm on the old Karoo Max options 2 and I went over my 30GB a month. I hate that they made these new rules to try and get us to go to the new packages. They limited me to 0.20meg. It's so slow I'm not receiving messages from my girlfriend on MSN.

These rules aren't new, they've been there the whole time and we agreed to be restricted by a Fair Usage Policy when we signed up for Max... Karoo haven't enforced it previously, now they are. If anything we should be thankful for Karoo not enforcing it from day one. If restricting folks who go over their FUP limit (I'll probably be one of them towards the end of the month as I've only got 22GB left) means that the rest of the network is more stable, better speeds etc then fair enough I'm happy for them to go ahead with it.

I am quite pleased that they are enforcing it now if it means the net is usable in peak time and some leecher on Max Option 1 downloading films 24/7 is slowing me down Wink

They just want people off the old packages because they are much better value. So they reduced the FUP to 30GB. Since when was it 30GB? It's more like a limit just like the new packages. I download movies 24/7 but I only download at 1.8 meg. It's the people with over 5meg speeds downloading 24/7 or on Youtube all day slowing net down.

I suppose Karoo had to do something to share out the bandwidth more fairly given the number of customers who were complaining of slow speeds. I guess if you pay for 30GB then that's all you can expect to get. Personally I prefer the idea of being throttled once you exceed your limit rather than getting charged when you exceed it.

Fair usage was 30GB when you signed up... It's always been there, just not enforced.

The FUP states that should you exceed your Limit (funny I thought it wasn't a limit) then your contention increases.  I thought contention was more about the share of your bandwidth you where alloted of the overall pot, so where does the 0.2mbps come in, that's a fixed rate.

You should only be affected by the fair usage policy if you use file sharing software such as peer to peer (p2p), file transfer (ftp) or binary newsgroups (USENET) during peak periods, or if you watch several hours of online content (e.g. iPlayer / YouTube) a week.

If you exceed the fair usage limit for your product then your broadband contention will be increased and the performance of your broadband will degrade during peak hours (6pm – midnight). We will email you to confirm you have exceeded your fair usage limit. Your speed outside of peak hours will remain unaffected. At the end of the month, your fair usage limits are reset and your broadband contention during peak hours will return to normal. We will not email you to confirm your fair usage limits have been reset.

doesnt give a speed there also checked me letter off karoo and that doesnt tell you wat speed you would get

Hehe my ICQ was getting this problem last night and I AM not over my limit, its a joke how crap the KC network is at times. Seems enforcing the FUP has done nothing for the network. Not sure how much bandwidth ICQ needs but it can't be much, also I was continually getting signed out of the Playstation Network. Sad

When will this shit improve.

288kbps it says in my letter, and to be honest that should be enough for instant messaging, but Karoo is shit, and I get instant messaging errors (on ICQ and MSN) even when my connection should be at full speed at peak times.

You people amuse me, you do nothing but complain, if you stick to what you're allowed you'll have no problems, if the limit isn't enough for you then go to another level, it doesn't take a genius to understand a simple problem. Roll Eyes

You don't get anything for nothing, stick to your limit.

From Karoo-- We often see less than 1 percent of customers using a disproportionate amount of internet bandwidth during peak hours. These customers degrade the performance of our broadband service by taking bandwidth away from customers who use the service fairly.

Did you read anything I wrote? I am well within my limits, can you please explain why its slow as shit and I keep getting time out messages on ICQ, MSN and Playstation network at peak times? Its fine off peak, no problems and full throughput too.

Yeh, the new enforcement don't seem to be helping peak time throughput at all. Its still dog slow.
