Hi as some of you may already be aware Karoo have asked for some feedback and a few details to help them look into some of the problems people are expriencing, here is what they require:

Quote
Hi all

Once again, thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback.  We need to understand if these issues are package or activity related, to help us identify the exact cause of the problems you are reporting.  To enable us to do that, please provide some details as below on an email with the subject header: Karoo Forums Feedback to help@kcom.com.

•         Karoo Username
•         Telephone number (of Karoo account) and a number we can contact you on if this is different
•         The time / date you were experiencing the problem – it would also help if you could provide any screen shots
•         What activity you were doing (browsing / streaming / gaming / Newsgroup or P2P / etc)

We really want to help solve these problems, but need your help to do this and very much appreciate the time you are taking in responding to us with your valuable feedback.

Kind regards
Karoo

i did that, they contacted me within an hour or so, discussed my issues, explained that my old package of max 1 is the lowest contention package on the network.  i've upgraded to the 19.99 a month package (30gb), i'll try anything to get some speed on an evening. currently:

If it proves to be a better package over the next few weeks, i will thank them profusely.  if its still rubbish, there is going to be trouble. Smiley

Gus, let us know your peak times for the next week or so as those speeds you are getting are no better than I get on Max off peak!!

They rang me yesterday while I was at work, but guessed if I rang back they would just try to get me to upgrade!

Hi as far as I know, all of the newer ADSL2+ packages, whether that be the Karoo Weekday or Karoo Pro 2 have the same priority on the network.

As long as that's enough usage for you Smiley - I am still of the opinion (as Stormy said before) that the MAX packages should "work" during the evening or busy times providing the user is within their PEAK fair usage limit. I don't know if the current performance of the MAX packages is a temporary measure though...

dave666,

I'm also on Pro 1 and connected at 14Mbps so not much different to you and I have no problem streaming in peak time.
I'm streaming 'Prog Rock Britannia' on iPlayer in the high bandwidth version as I write this ( I know, I'm a sad old bloke!).
Maybe you'd like to report your streaming problem to help@kcom.com or just ring tech support?

cheers

So is this basically an admission that Karoo will throttle anyone on Max so they cannot use iplayer at peak times? Where does it say that in the FUP?

Its a bit of a shame that Karoo *seem* to be taking measures to move people off Max when Max should actually work perfectly fine when the user is well within their FUP.

I am actually getting my FUP block pretty much applied regardless of how much data I have used at peak times.

Where is the fairness in that?

@KarooBroadband can you please stop limiting the game heroes of newerth to 5kb data transfer please, thanks.
Seriously, this game uses 15mb an hour tops, and you simply cannot move an inch. I'm sure many other games are experiencing the same problem it's a JOKE, this is 2010 for goodness sake.

I've just put myself on Max Option 2 so I can 'share the experience'.
I can still stream iPlayer in the higher bandwidth mode with no buffering, and this is the height of peak time.

As discussed in other threads, looks like there may be an issue with the Manchester speed test site.
We are continuing to investigate this.
The Birmingham speed test result seems to reflect the speeds I am actually getting at the moment.
Another speed test, this time while simultaneously downloading IE 8 (@ 400kb/s)and streaming iPlayer in high bandwidth mode (1.5Mb/s(still with no buffering).

so total bandwidth I'm using is 400kbps + 1500kbps + 2220kb/s = 4120kb/s which is what Netmeter is showing and is roughly equal to what the Birmingham speed test showed when I wasn't downloading anything else.

In summary, I'm not getting a bad experience on Max Opt 2.
If you are still having problems and haven't done so yet, please pass on your details to help@kcom.com and we will do our best to help you.

Cheers
